Unable to type in UN and PW on Android

I am running android 5.1.1. The game launches and updates just fine but when I go to type my username and password nothing shows up and I'm unable to log in. I've uninstalled, cleaned cache and re-installed 4 or 5 times now with no luck of logging in.

Is a keyboard displaying?

You need to press the "back" button on your device for the keyboard to popup.

lol yes, the keyboard is displayed... I can type out my UN and PW but nothing is displayed in the text boxes

You need to download a different keyboard, that doesn't run on the UI thread, basically anything u find on play store will do.
