Do I have to pay to play?

I'm new so this may very well be a dumb question.... but every time I log in I notice a day countdown for a subscription for both free and member accounts... since the free account number has also been counting down will that restrict me from playing when at 0 even though I'm preferring to stay f2p?

What you're seeing is just for Halloween. All major holidays have a free subscription for X amountof days. After that you are not required to pay but you won't be subscribed for the added bonuses

no mate, thats just a countdown for a halloween event, with which you have been given free subscription for 5 days to take advantage of the holiday event. (subscription gives you more xp than usual and other perks.) when your free subscription runs out the xp rate will return to normal and you can play the entire server for free, with the option to subscribe to get the perks back.

The other players are correct, you're just experiencing an added bonus for the H'ween event. The entire world including members areas will remain free to use.
