General Chat Atmosphere [Negative, Toxic, Inappropriate]

I wanted to preface this by saying I'm not someone that is offended by any of it, I personally do not care; however, there's a fine line between having loose rules and no rules at all...

As of late, it's completely crossed the line on multiple occasions. I understand it's holidays, mods are busy etc... But, I do believe some heavier enforcement/guidelines for chat is required. (I'm talking about global chat here)

I can see this being a major issue if any of the younger audience/their parents get caught up in it.

There's obviously a few users in particular, who I'm not going to single out, that are mainly contributing to this issue. I hope others feel the same way... It's not so bad sometimes but when it is; it's bad... Not the type of atmosphere you're looking to get when playing a game.

I think it comes down to just using common sense.  The freedom to say what you want is a sensitive issue, and I think we do a good job with allowing a lot of leeway, but it really comes down to the players themselves making good decisions as to what they say over global chat.  Joking around with each other and about different things is fine, but there's a fine line between harmless fun/trolling and inappropriate topics or comments.  I don't really care either, as long as it doesn't get too out of hand.  However, I'm sure there are others who have stricter limits for what they want to see over global chat, so some better judgement is definitely in order.

Yeah for sure -- completely on the same page.

It just seems like its been border-line insane as of late.

Re-implementing some filters could be the way to go. Parsing out phrases, etc. with a toggleable filter should do the trick.

We used to have no rules.
You've seen nothing.

They implemented real rules recently, and Mod pluto came on earlier today and told people to keep it in ::2 and handed out mutes as well.

For some reason, there's a subset of people here who always say love and brother, which are both really fucked up things to say in Canada (where I'm from). I'd like to see those words filtered out. But let's get real, I doubt there's any kids in the audience or parents looking over their shoulder for that matter. Rather, this type of language moderation is for the new players who are new to RSC private servers, and therefore aren't down with the uneducated, shit talking, racist, and homophobic subset of players who have plagued RSC private servers for a decade.

Logged in today to the most amount of ignorant racism I've ever seen in general.

Can mods start muting people? It's getting super toxic.

Agreed. This is first time I've turned off global. A 10 minute mute can go a long way.

It sucks because the GM allows us to use profanity like grown ups and people log on like TOMO and ruin a perfectly good chat. A temp mute for a few isn't cutting it obviously. Maybe make a note of who was munted recently and start increasing the mute time. I have the chat blocked most of the time now wich sucks for me because I enjoy helping new players. Something does need to be done.
