Hi, I posted an intro a long time ago but since then my relationship w/ server has changed so here goes.
Like a lot of you more seasoned RSC private server players, I played Luke's v1 then v2 before here. When Mod Reptar defected to RSCR I followed him. My dream was to play RSC for free with a big community of like-minded adventurers, and for full replication with revolutionary new features to make the game even better. RSCRevolution was and is clearly the closest realization of that dream, so I decided that even though it wasn't my first server, it would be my last.
After posting a bunch of well-received suggestions and comedic quest reviews, I was well-known/trusted enough that I became a moderator in Feb '16, not even 60 days after joining the community. Then not too long after in June I was made head moderator, which was mostly a ceremonial title at the time akin to "head nolifer", but I used the platform to have a greater voice and effect in staff discussions and on the direction of the server. After Kleio designed our skillcapes, I worked with Fate directly to choose which NPCs would sell the capes and wrote dialogues. Now instead of mere fandom, the conversations I had written were now actually a part of the game, which players were interacting with daily!
Then Fate retired, then Pluto. I'm thankful to them for taking me on this ride and taking a chance on me. But suddenly, there was a vacuum that allowed me to start implementing my own vision for the server. N0m, who Fate described as "probably the best developer you will ever come across in the RS scene" decided to take me on as an administrator. This started out with small solo decisions like extending the Legend's guild dungeon, then inputs for events and bigger content projects which lead directly to the two of us delivering the Reaper and Reaper lair, the h'ween event, Christmas Event, Grincher, Grincher Lair, wilderness obelisk teleports, and so on. Basically, n0m was the left brain, deciding what to approve or veto, and coding everything himself, while I was the right brain, designing the landscapes, outlining boss concepts and behaviors, writing dialogues and lores. With plenty of staff input of course, for example Mod Uncle has been doing a great job fixing bugs and running the Discord.
To get the fullest RSC experience, three things are required. You need the most 1) replications 2) features and 3) unique players. RSCR has been #1 for a while now, but it still has room to grow and improve. During the Christmas event we broke 200 players logged in again, but I believe we can have that number as a minimum if we advertise properly.
I can't claim to speak for the future of the server, but I'd like to share my ideal vision for RSCR as a wide eyed dreamer, some of these are shared visions some are me just spitballing:
-More content for high combat/flats. Endgame content like more bosses, more dungeon raids, more high-level NPCs, more advanced gear.
-More functional gear, armors, rings
-Full team DM system with elimination, first to X kills, CTF, and KOTH game modes, custom settings/mutators and different arena choices
-Full replication (the four remaining quests, and remaining minigames)
-A new skill (I have a decent basis for Slayer, construction with player owned houses is less feasible but still something I've outlined and would be a great sink)
-More agility shortcuts
-More custom quests (like Evil Dan questline)
-Get players especially droid users on forums more
-More quality-of-life and client improvements
-Tastefully done summoning spells/familiars/pets or however we decide to do this
-More sophisticated wilderness timeout to allow multing in wildy without being allowed to enter each other's map sectors
Of course nothing really prepared me for the weird side of admin. Some people have tried offering me money in exchange for some service, item, or unban, which we do not do and I will never do. Like the rest of the mods this is a hobby for me, I have a job irl so I would never want to compromise our organic ingame economy or create a double-standard of enforcing the rules. RSCRevolution is not about the money, it's about providing players with the best RSC experience possible, new-meets-nostalgia. Another bizarre thing is how how people randomly stoop so low in such a small community, but I try to keep my chin up and not let it affect me.
I also play some Overwatch, PM me and we'll queue preferably American servers.
Anyways, hi, Billy Mays here, I just wanted to post something to touch base with people who read the forums and give a better picture of what my role is here.
I'll see you in-game or on Facebook,
Billy
