I think it would be good if you could have a better field of the view for the game instead of just blackness and maybe this could be toggable.
Back then in 2001 this was due to graphical limitations.
Hope you take my idea on board!

This has been suggested, and most likely will be looked into in near feature, either zoomable, or maybe able to toggle on/off Fog of war.
