Treasure is <1 directly below you

Can't get any closer, a step in any direction and it makes be go right back but when I dig nothing happens? Don't see any ladders around or anything.

Below means it's on a different level. Some cave or basement.
Where does it ask you to dig?

Ah OK. It has me out around level 8 ftp wildy near the edgeville dungeon exit, I guess maybe it's down there somewhere. Thanks for the help!
