Vanilla server

RSCR community and staff,

It seriously saddens me and many others to see rscrevolution close down the game that started it all. As a veteran player or rscrevolution Classic, I have watched the game's playerbase dwindle from hundreds of thousands down to only a few scores of dedicated players. As this process continued, I have seen the game's community become not only smaller, but also more tightly knit.

I have also watched RSCR grow up from the ashes of the old game, and am pleased by what has become of it. I've even played around a bit on a few other accounts, the passwords to which have since been lost. While this has happened, though, I have seen RSCR morph into something that, while fun to play, isn't quite what I started out on. RSCR as it is, is a fine game, and it's quite interesting to see what RSC looks like with treasure trails, skill capes, some RS2-like interface features, and an auction house and has filled it's niche quite well and I'm sure will continue to do so in the future.

That being said, I (along with many "vanilla" RSC players) have been thinking hard about what to do after the 6th of August. We do not want to see the game we played for so long go away, and agree with Billy that the "vanilla" RSC is an important piece of the game's history. Now that the game will soon no longer be kept around by rscrevolution, I believe that it is the responsibility of the players to keep it (or as close an turnip as possible) going so that those who grew up playing it can continue with the game they know and love, and so that newer players who want to know how it all began have the opportunity to do so.

Therefore, I suggest that the staff of RSCR attempt to open up a separate "vanilla" RSC server that attempts to remain as close as possible to the original game with the original interface, XP rates, &c. It can go on unsupported, as rscrevolution has done for so long with the original, or perhaps a mod or two can look into it from time to time to keep a lid on the bots. If this were to happen, it would be greatly appreciated by myself and what remains of the original RSC community. Not only that, but I'm sure many of us could contribute our time and skills to develop this from the great deal of infrastructure that you already have in place here on your excellent private server.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Mod note: removed
Personally, I don't have the same amount of free time now as I did 17 years ago when I started RSC.
RSC with it's original rates and lack of quality of life improvements takes an extreme amount of dedication that I, and most others, wouldn't be willing to put in.

That being said, I'm a huge fan of idle games. So I'd love to see a vanilla server where botting is actually encouraged.
Turning RSC into an idle game.
This is something that I may even setup myself one day. But isn't something realistic right now.

The admins here are already exploring making a vanilla mode, where you will be allowed to enjoy the game at 1x XP rates. They have already said there will be no ''new server'' and vanilla mode will not mean you can't play the custom RSCR content, it means only that you can enjoy the game at the original RSC xp rate. Coding exceptions for all the custom content would be a huge mess and would pretty much break the game, creating a brand new vanilla server is not viable considering it's such a small player base. There are plenty of threads already on this with plenty of responses from staff about what the plan is.

With all the rscrevolution 2 type additions to RSCR,  the closest to original RSC would be to implement a 1x original xp rate into ironman mode, seeing as original RSC doesn't have auction and ironman can't use auction anyways.  I'd imagine ironman gameplay with original rates would be as close to original classic as possible here on RSCR.   I myself have suggested this particular setup before. We shall see I reckon

As much as we all love vanilla, you also need to remember we aint 13-14 years of age. We have lives n jobs and dont have 2+ years to master one skill.

There is demand for a vanilla server but not enough that we would want to split our user base over two worlds. The better solution would be to make a fully functional legacy mode for characters who want vanilla rates and features, which is what we have planned.

Classic community is small enough, splitting it would be stupid.
